Before you light the first fire

Three warning signs your chimney is a fire risk today

The NFPA recommends a chimney cleaning and inspection every year. U.S. fire departments still respond to roughly 25,000 chimney fires each heating season, and most start in a flue nobody looked inside.

Glazed creosote in the flue

A shiny, hardened layer of creosote can ignite once the flue hits about 1,100°F. You cannot see it from the hearth and you cannot smell it, only a sweep and a camera find it.

Blocked or cracked tiles

Bird nests, soot falls and cracked flue tiles push carbon monoxide back into the room instead of up the stack. That is when a normal evening fire becomes a hospital visit.

Smoke that hangs in the room

A fireplace that smokes into the room, smells smoky in summer or refuses to draw on cold mornings is telling you the flue is dirty, undersized or leaking air.

What we do

One crew for everything above your firebox

From the annual sweep to a full flue liner, QuoteHiva handles the whole chimney on one visit, one flat rate and one phone call.

Chimney sweeping

Creosote, soot and ash pulled from the flue and smoke chamber, with the firebox and damper wiped down before we leave.

Level 1 & 2 inspections

A visual check on every visit, plus a full-length camera scan when you buy a home, change appliances or smell smoke.

Caps & crown work

Stainless steel caps, chase covers and crown sealing that keep rain, birds and squirrels out of the flue for good.

Flue liner replacement

Insulated stainless liners sized to your appliance, installed to code with a lifetime warranty on parts.

Masonry & brick repair

Crumbling mortar, spalling brick and cracked crowns rebuilt and sealed, with photos of the damage before and after.

Leak & water damage

Brown ceiling stains and damp fireboxes traced to the flashing, cap or crown, then repaired before the next storm.

Dryer vent cleaning

Lint pulled from the full run of the vent, with the outside hood checked, the second most common source of house fires.

Stoves & inserts

Wood stoves, inserts and pellet appliances swept, checked and set up with the right clearances and gaskets.

Not sure which one you need? Call and describe your chimney, we will tell you on the call.

How it works

Three steps from a dirty flue to a clean one

No forms, no waiting on a callback window. You talk to the crew that shows up at your door.

1

Call and describe the chimney

Two minutes on the phone: how many flues, when it was last swept, any smoke or leaks. We quote the flat rate right there.

2

Pick your slot

Morning or afternoon, same day when the route allows. We text you the tech’s name and an arrival window you can plan around.

3

Sweep, inspect, photograph

Drop cloths down, flue swept, camera through the tiles. You get the written report with photos before the truck pulls away.

Why QuoteHiva

Why homeowners keep our number on the fridge

We are a local chimney crew, not a call centre that subcontracts your address to the lowest bidder.

  • Certified, background-checked techs

Every sweep is CSIA-certified and covered by $1M in liability insurance, and we carry proof in the truck.

  • Clean to a fault

Canvas drop cloths, sealed firebox openings and HEPA vacuums. Most homeowners cannot tell we were in the room.

  • You see it, we do not just say it

Photos of your own flue go into the report, so you can see the creosote, the tiles and the crack with your own eyes.

  • 90-day workmanship promise

If anything we swept or repaired gives you trouble in 90 days, we come back and put it right at no charge.

  • No upsell script

If your liner is sound and your crown is sealed, we will say so and take the $89 sweep. That is the whole business model.

What neighbours say after the visit

Real jobs from the last twelve months, with the service line and the town.

★★★★★

“Booked at 9am, swept by 2pm.” The tech laid his own drop cloths, showed me photos of the flue on his tablet and explained why I did not need a new liner. Zero dust left behind.

“Finally, an honest price.” Two companies quoted me a liner without ever looking at the chimney. QuoteHiva swept mine, checked the tiles and told me they were fine. $89, out the door.

“Same-day when it mattered.” We smelled smoke all winter. They found a nest and a cracked tile on camera, capped the chimney the same week and sent the report to my insurance.

Questions

Answers before you pick up the phone

How often does a chimney need sweeping?

Once a year for most homes, and always before the first fire of the season if you burn more than a cord of wood. Households that light a fire most evenings should plan on a sweep every six months.

How much does a chimney sweep cost?

$89 for a single-flue sweep with a Level 1 inspection and a written photo report. A Level 2 camera scan is $249. Caps, liners and masonry work are quoted by phone or on site, at a flat rate you agree to before anyone starts.

How long will the visit take?

Plan on 45 to 60 minutes for one flue, including setup and cleanup. A Level 2 camera inspection adds 20 to 30 minutes, and repairs are booked as a separate visit so you are never waiting on the chimney all afternoon.

Will soot and dust end up in my house?

No. We lay canvas drop cloths over the floor and hearth, seal the firebox opening and pull everything through HEPA vacuums. Soot goes into the truck, not onto your sofa, and we walk the room with you before we leave.

How do I know whether I need a new liner?

We put a camera the full length of the flue and photograph the tiles, joints and any gaps, then show you on the screen. If your liner is intact we will tell you. We do not sell liners without photos of the damage.

Do you service wood stoves, inserts and pellet stoves?

Yes. We sweep and service wood stoves, fireplace inserts, pellet appliances and open fireplaces, and we check the cap, crown and flashing on the roof while the ladder is up.

What happens if you find something wrong?

You get a written report with photos and a flat repair price, and you decide what happens next. Nothing is done without your approval, and no work is added without the price agreed first.
